It's funny how the South is often associated with homophobia and hate crimes against gays and lesbians, but researching the attacks that made headlines, there seems no bias towards the South. Indeed, just as many in the Midwest and especially the rural West. I'm not sure about racial violence, but it seems the likelihood is even higher in say Wyoming than Georgia, although the lower population density might balance that out.

Actually a lot of jails have seperate sections for gays. Of course that doesn't mean there wouldn't be assault (don't you mess with my man!) but yeah less likely to get assaulted in prison unless the prison doesn't segregate the population.

What goes on in prison isn't considered gay though.

It isn't? I'm not sure how two men having sex would be considered anything besides gay - prison or not. The guys in prison doing it may not want to be labeled as gay, but if they aren't gay then they wouldn't be having sex with other men. Period.

Gay men aren't more likely to be assaulted in any particular region of the U.S. It's less likely to happen in larger cities, but it can still happen. There are ignorant people everywhere who think they have the right to assault other people or take other people's lives.

it seems to be a dominance thing in prison....If you ask the guy doing the raping in prison, he won't tell you he's gay.
