I don't think it bothers me as much, but I do think it's wrong in public schools. Whether or not to use corporal punishment is the parents role and having it in public schools seems usurping of that. In fact I think I recall even very conservative parents having the view of "nobody spanks my kid, but me."

I don't support corporal punishment in public schools (or really, private schools for that matter). Why should teachers and administrative staff be saddled with the emotional baggage and misplaced responsibility of raising/disciplining children which are not their own (beyond punishments such as detention, of course)?

That said, it's a parent's choice and I hate the way corporal punishment has come to be demonized in some of the more liberal areas of the country, in which nanny-staters want to dictate the laws of parenting to private citizens.
