Hi,

I'm 27/male still stuck at my parents house after 2 months that was only supposed to be 2 weeks.... I lived in Austin for a little while (1 year) while working for Dell Computers. Great place, but want to experience life elsewhere. Currently living in Arkansas back at my parents house. I'm now thinking of moving down to Destin, FL and finding employment when I get there, as applying to places online has been a failure....

So my question is, has anyone moved to Destin, FL or thought about it? Think it would be a wise decision or would I get bored. I do love the beach, but would it get old? Should I just go to Chicago or LA or somewhere there would be more job opportunities. I'm over the whole party seen. I would appreciate any opinons. THANKS in advance ;-)

I lived on the beach for a couple years and absolutely loved it (not Destin, but still, beach life is amazing).

I'd actually suggest looking at Tampa or Jacksonville though. They both have enough Southern charm left to give off that friendly hometown feel, but they're also big enough that they'll have far more job opportunities than Destin.

Good compromise, IMO.

Destin and the rest of the "Redneck Riviera" are nice for a visit but I wouldn't want to live there. But that's just me.

First time I'd ever been to FL's panhandle was a USAF deployment. When we walked into the base's hotel, the pretty young desk clerk said: "Hi! Welcome to L.A"! When we looked at each other like we'd been let off the plane at the wrong place, she quickly added: "This here's Lower Alabama"!

I grew up in the real LA 20 miles north of the Florida line. I really like Destin, Panama City and Fort Walton.

Here is my question for you Augustusneroni. Have you researched Mobile, Alabama? There are plenty of jobs around and many new jobs coming. It is close to the beach. It is a big enough city that you have choices of all types of things to do, eat and shop. All types of things go on year round, Mardi Gras, Bay Fest, Greater Gulf States Fair, GMAC Bowl, SR Bowl, etc.
