MS does have a bad reputation, but I find the state to be very nice. The people are friendly and the scenery is OK. Nothing too spectacular, but nothing too average and boring either. If I were to pick a second favorite state from those listed it would Mississippi for me personally. My youngest brother lived there for a few years and I spent quite a bit of time down visiting and wandering around the State.

For the scenery aspect its very flat compared to where I am from as you can imagine, but some of the countryside does look like my region minus our rolling green hills.
