Yeah, but many people don't like the way old buildings and architecture look. They want new or modern looking bulidings and will try to use those complaints in their argument.

The Midwest gets trashed a lot on CD too. Try mentioning anything about Michigan or other "Rust Belt" states and you get a sea of negativity. I think most of the criticism of the Sunbelt (which includes much of the West as well as the South) is based on the relentless suburban sprawl and lack of public transportation. I think the criticism in those cases is justified, as that does describe most of the Sunbelt.
