Here in Chicago I pay 1% of my home's value, which seems pretty typical.

My county is #19. (Merrimack County, NH)
NH does not have an income tax (taxes on interest and dividends count) or sales tax.
Most people buy a SMALLER square footage house to save on property taxes.
In this day in age, why would anyone buy a McMansion?

Ye-owtch! I pay 800 for 1100 ft on a half acre.
Ranked #685.

I thought that as well, but the last place I lived made the list at #483 Aroostook County, Maine. And that is more rural and isolated from a metro area than we are here now.

I think it is a typical Forbes list and you have to be about half crazy to understand how they compile their numbers and their lists.
