Southern Ohio's climate is similar to southern Pennsylvania/South Jersey, so even climatewise couldn't count. Cincinati-Dayton is a thriving metropolis that had integrated schools long before the Civil Rights movement. And of course, it is north of the Ohio River and the Census Bureau does not consider them Southern. Yes, the Southeast portion is part of Appalachia, but so it much of Pennsylvania and parts of Upstate New York. Besides, how can part of a state that happens to border CANADA be part of the South?

Well, it is the Southern most part of Canada that is as far south as Northern California, so, maybe not a great example, but I do agree that Ohio is northern, just with Southen qualities in the southern part of the state.

In Sandusky, for the ferry that runs between Leamington, Pelee Island and Sandusky.

The line is north of I-70. The waitress at a subway restaurant in East Liberty took my order for an "EYE-talian" sub.

They are not semi southern. 25 percent Southern at most...West Virginia is more like 75 percent Southern.

Nope. Cincinnati is solidly Midwestern. Only the south central and southeast portions are Southern.

It might be country, but it's not Southern.

Why is this still even a question?

Ohio is a northern state. The north is not without country, rednecks, twangy accents, poverty issues, farms, forests, etc. These things do not make something southern. The same way that urban sectors do not make something northern.
