Many great metal bands from Florida, Cannibal Corpse, Obituary, Deicide, Death, Nocturnal and Morbid Angel

California has great ones as well like the all time classics in Metallica, Megadeth and Slayer

Texas has claim to one of my favorites, Pantera...

I have always been a big fan of all forms of the metal genre and subgenres.

Right now my favorites are Children of Bodom (kind of remind me of helloween if anyone else remembers them) and Lamb of God, although Slayer never gets old

As far as venues, I grew up in Rochester NY and they had the Penny Arcade which had many good bands come through there

The Penny Arcade still has shows. The Montage, Bug Jar, Monteys Krown also have decent shows. Rochester is hot bed for tech metal with bands like Psyopus, Sulaco, Kalibas, etc. Dan Lilker (Anthrax, SOD, Brutal Truth) lives around here and had some projects working that were pretty good.

In Syracuse, the Lost Horizon was the spot for metal bands. Here's a few local bands: Unholy - in Metal Bands ( Metal Underground.com )
Engineer - in Metal Bands ( Metal Underground.com )
The BNR Metal Pages

I wouldn't be surprised if Ithaca had a metal scene too.

The half penny pub in Syracuse has metal bands play sometimes too. I've seen friends bands play there.

I have heard of the Lost Horizon, but never saw a show there. I watched some of that Unholy concert video just now, those guys are pretty good

I haven't heard of anything, but then again I usually don't find out show info until the last minute. I'll have to ask a couple friends that play in bands.

ok you all are thinking of old-man metal bands. COLUMBUS, OH is where it's at. Attack Attack!, Miss May I, The Crimosn Armada, The Devil Wears Prada (technically from Dayton), My Ticket Home, and soon-to-be signed Death of an Era. Just to name a few
