What U.S city has the best current metal scene include any specifics if a specific genre has a particularly large following/# of bands (black, death, glam, industrial, classic, nu, metalcore, etc...)

Also list your city and describe the size (# of venues (names are good as well) and amount of people or airplay) and any other facts about your cities metal scene.

My home city Chicago (waiting to leave next year for college), has a good number of venues though only 1 that is pure metal and most venues are spread out thoughout the city and suburbs. Often a metal band will get place with a punk band and an indie band. There largest genre is probably metalcore/whatever core you can think of, though there are a good number of death and thrash bands, not many nu metal bands, some prog bands and even afew Glam Bands

Venues: Cobra Lounge, Rockbox, Double Door, Aragon, HOB, Jaguar Club, numerous others

I'd say cities in Florida would have some of the best.

A WONDERFUL TOPIC!

Metal is my favorite music of all. My personal favorite is Black Metal. I love Cradle of Filth, Dimmu Borgir, Burzum, Darkthrone, Emperor, and Satyricon.

Dallas has a really great metal scene. We have one of the best known American black metal bands here with Absu. But the Dallas metal scene is more focused on thrash and technical metal. Bands from Dallas that would meet this are: The Destro, Jacknife, A Dozen Furies, etc. Of course Dallas was also the home of Pantera.

Depends on the type of metal of course.

Tampa was pretty much the birth place of modern death metal. Morbid Angel, Deicide, Obituary, and Cannibal Corpse are all based there. All except Cannibal Corpse were formed in Tampa.

Los Angeles and San Francisco were the birthplaces of modern heavy metal. Slayer, Megadeth, Exedous, Metallica, Possessed, and Testament all came out of there.

Within the United States (examples listed):

DC is the home of political death metal-Dying Fetus and Misery Index
Tampa is the home of Traditional Death metal- the bands I named above
The Bay area is the home of gore metal-Vile and Exhumed
Chicago is the home of Blackend Death metal-Disinter, Usuper, Nachmistym
Dallas and New Orleans are the home of Black Metal- Absu and Goatwhore
Los Angeles is the home of new age metal (16 year olds with record deals that are still quite good): Winds of Plague and Suicide Silence
The Pacific Northwest is the home of Folk Metal: Agollach
Cleveland is the home of electronic/metal fusion: Mushroomhead and Crossbreed
New York is the home of primitive Death Metal: Suffocation and Immolation
Boston is the home of Metalcore: Shadows Fall and Unearth

Don't forget about Texas! We have Pantera!!! As far as the best metal city ever...San Fran. they can claim Metallica, Megadeth, and Armored Saint. NYC area gets Slayer, Biohazard, Fear Factory, Anthrax, and Faith no More. Tampa gets M. Manson and Iced Earth.

Slayer and Fear Factory are from Los Angeles, not New York. Faith No More is from San Francisco. Marilyn Manson came out of the Fort Lauderdale/Miami area.

Pantera probably is Texas' greatest metal export. Straight from Arlington, Texas (between Dallas and Fort Worth).
