Here in the most regulated county in the most regulated state it's illegal to sell Christmas trees before a certain time.

"According to county code, for more than 30 years it's been illegal to sell a Christmas tree in Montgomery County before Dec. 5. Those caught taking cash, credit cards or checks for a tree before then can be fined $500. " A church in Bethesda (one of ten wealthiest towns/places in the country) got busted for illegally selling Christmas trees (for a charitable cause) in November. Gotta love this state...

Early Christmas Tree Sales? Heavens, No. - washingtonpost.com

Here's some more good ones from the so-called PRM (People's Republic of Maryland) from a website:

-It's illegal to take a lion to the movies. (Baltimore)

-It is a park rule violation to be in a public park with a sleeveless shirt. $10 fine. This would include joggers that go shirtless. (1898) (Baltimore)

-No person who is a "tramp" or "vagrant" shall loiter in any park at any time. (Baltimore)

-It is a violation of city code to sell chicks or ducklings to a minor within 1 week of the Easter holiday. (Baltimore)

-You may not curse inside the city limits. (Baltimore)

-You can not have a antenna exposed outside of your house yet you can have a 25' satellite dish. (Columbia)

-A law from the early 1900's prohibits men from going topless on the Boardwalk. (Ocean City)

From Connecticut:

-You can be stopped by the police for biking over 65 miles per hour.

-You may not educate dogs. (Hartford)

-It is illegal for a man to kiss his wife on Sunday (Hartford)

Speed limits apply to bicycles too. So while 65 mph may be unbelievably fast for a bike, you can get a ticket for going too fast on a neighborhood street.

The tiny town of Mount Jackson, VA actually has a law that is still on their books going back to 1953 in regards to their local radio station stating that "The Mount Jackson, Virginia radio station WSIG-AM 790 is to play only country and western music with the exception of Sundays when only religious music is to be played and nothing else including news reports ..."

Today Mount Jackson's AM 790 is not WSIG but rather WSVG and the country music has long since been replaced by a News/Talk format and yes they do news on Sunday....ARREST THE STAFF !!!!

I have also been told over the years by a LOT of people that it is illegal to masterbate in Virginia...so much for "Virginia is for Lovers"..if one just happens to love themselves.

When I worked for a local newspaper it was illegal to send bingo ads in the mail. It's gambling and may be illegal in a lot of states or areas. For mail subscribers these ads had to be covered with a piece of opaque paper which was waxed on one side and could be easily removed later.

I've heard of some neighborhoods that regulate what materials and what colors you can paint your house, some that ban solar panels on roofs, some suburbs that ban parking on the street, and some that ban outdoor clotheslines!
