I've traveled all over the country, and people always compliment me on my accent. They always ask me to say certain words, like coffee, dog, walk, etc.
But according to southerners on CD, everyone hates the NYC accent, lol. I think it's a jealousy thing.
When I was in the south, I was actually made fun of because of my NY accent. People who don't like a NYkers accent don't know any better. I rather have a NY accent than cut my words in half like they do in the south.
Ex: in the Atl instead of saying "College Park" they say "Colle Pa" "Walmart" is "Walma" , etc.

See, right here is why I'm moving to this city, New Yorkers have balls, moxie, and personality that Southerners and Midwesterners are just jealous of. I guess it's just apart of being a city guy, living fly.

True, it's interesting, Ebonics is actually evolving similarly to French.
In Old French all the letters were pronounced, kind of like Old English, so, for "Parlez-vous" which is pronounced "Parlay-voo", it was pronounced "Parlez-vous".
So dropping the last letters of words is just another interesting linguistic evolution of our language.
The richness of all the different accents there are has always fascinated me.
Yeah, you are in the minority on this one. Most people think the NY accent is annoying and sounds uneducated. According to only NY'ers, (who don't travel) the accent is ok but the rest of the country is laughing at it
