If You think LI is provincial you should live in the Saint Louis area for a while. Not only have many of them never left the area, they don't take a liking to newcomers.

After living here, I would go back to Long Island in a heartbeat.
Dinsdale, I live in St Louis and accept you as a newcomer. Along with the other 100 transplants living just in my building downtown.

There are many major US cities I would never live in. If a city is not listed below, it means I would never purposely ever try to move there.

1st Tier (LOVE these cities)
NYC and Chicago
2nd Tier (Like it a lot)
San Francisco
3rd Tier (Like it, wouldn't be too sad to live there)
Philadelphia, Boston, Seattle, Portland
4th Tier (Ehh, I could probably live there if I had to)
DC, LA

I'm sure this list mimics other urban-minded individuals in this forum, so it probably isn't too much of a surprise.

The cold restricts me from living somewhere like Minneapolis, Chicago, Boston, etc. they're all great cities but far too cold for me, I'll visit when its warm/hot though.

Not easy to reduce it to one. I'll say Atlanta...it's in Georgia, the South.
Honorable mentions go to Dallas, Nashville, Memphis, Little Rock, Charleston SC.

Says the guy living in the western most suburb an hour from Downtown. I went to dinner the other night with my CITY neighbors and noticed out of 12 of us, only one person was from STL. Your ranting is pathetic, don't you think there is more to STL than the people in Lake St Louis? I would never consider living that far from the city and I'm sure the people are provincial, that area was farm land 15 years ago!

Major cities eh? Probably Chicago for two reasons...the harshness of the winters and the clannishness of Chicagoans

Dallas- -No its not a Texas thing- - I like Austin a lot,and Houston a little- -but Dallas- -just not my kind of city-

edit to say>>>>
i try not to comment on places that Ive never been to- - but someone mentioned Detroit,& I think the odds are real good - that you woulnt see me packing for Detroit= not a great rep- and unemployment sky high- plus other negitives'
Very cold, & I never hear positives about that place- - No offense to the folks who already live there, I just have a feeling that I could never do it. Again I admit I was never there- -
