I'll throw out a pic to bump this thread. I took this just south of Iowa City.

Nice photos, unfortunately i only had the time to look at all the IL and WI ones, but most of it is forests, hills, lakes, rolling countryside.(oh and that 1 "waterfall") Other than that not much other variation, but truly stunning nonetheless.

I dont think WI is as varied as IL as far as topography goes. IL has prairie, woodlands, flood plains, sand prairies, cypress swamps, tallgrass prairies, several canyons, savannahs, etc.

Great pix!

Steve-o, I stumbled across Alto Pass, IL last year on one of my road trips. Beautiful place, cool little town!

Some other off-the-beaten path beautiful places in the Midwest I'd share pix of if I had 'em are:
IL: Cave-In-Rock
IA: Bentonsport/Bonaparte
WI: Port Washington
MI: Porcupine Mtns.
MO: Park Hills
MN: Pigeon River
ND: Turtle Mountains
SD: Mystic
IN: Bloomington area
OH: Put-in Bay

I've always LOVED the Loess Hills in Iowa. I love the big city (and the small one), but I can also appreciate the quiet, serene countryside - it's so peaceful and relaxing to me.
