60630 jefferson park, chicago IL is 11,000/ sq mile. thats 25,448 ppl crammed into 2.35 sq mile neighborhood ( 1 of 77) on chicago's nw side. It seems like much, much more. The jefferson park metra train/ cta bus and train station is usually pretty busy. Milwaukee ave is always busy since it crosses the kennedy, 90/94 junction edens expressway runs through middle of town under milwaukee ave, with the jefferson park train station and metra station built right above it. Its also a blue line cta stop and has popular taverns close to it.
16th precinct CPD built a new station on milwaukee, and the old neighborhood is extremely blue collar, home to cpd detectives, cfd and emt personell, librarians and teachers. Very heavy polish influence - i basically see "mo wimmy popolsku" - "we speak polish" (same as se habla espanol) in the windows of alot of buisnesses whose owners live in the same neighborhood. some for generations... My parents old house was on the east side of town closer to elston off LeClaire by the stanley spring co. It was one house down from those same metra tracks. Probably how i learned to sleep deeply like a rock since trains always went by... i have no problem eating pierogies and gwumpki.
where my family is from in quezon city, phillipines part of greater metro manila, a poulation density of 43,000 ppl / sq mi... yes its alot of people.

during the crack epidemic many people fled inner-city boston for somerville, mass... i remember during the 90's, the mayor made mention of it having the highest population density in the country.

I seriously doubt Somerville ever had the highest population density in the country.
It would have to have around 3-4x its current population to have the highest population density of any U.S. city.
For a thread that's now lasted nearly 7 years, I am really glad that the OP used the proper possessive "city's" instead of the plural "cities" in the thread title. It's sometimes the little things that make me happy.

Phoenix's is 3,400/sq mi for the whole city, but that is due to over half the city limits being desert or parkland, the innermost 150 sq mi have an avg density of 8,500/sq mi and our densest neighborhoods are approx 15,000/sq mi
