Iím currently about an hour north of Detroit and want out! I absolutely love the north east coast however the winters are pretty brutal I hear. My husband prefers hot climates which I canít stand. So Iím trying to find a happy medium between the extreme winters and the extreme summers along the east coast. We want to move within the next year and start a family. So were looking for good climate and safe to start a family. We have two big dogs so it would have to be pet friendly. Weíd love to have our privacy but donít want to have to make a day trip out of going to the city. Jobs arenít necessarily an issue because Iím in nursing/psychology and he is just an all around business/handyman. Iíve done so much looking on the web yet feel like I havenít gotten anywhere. Please help if you have any tips!

Have you researched Atlanta? The people here are friendly and there is a lot to do here. In addition, there are many people from Detroit in Atlanta and the surrounding suburbs.

As far as weather goes, we have all four seasons. In the summer it can get hot sometimes, but due to our elevation it is not nearly as hot as some other southern cities. In the winter it gets pretty cold here. Last night, we had rain, sleet and a little snow. The weather forecast for the rest of the week is lows in the 20's and highs in the 40's.

The city is pet friendly and although the job market isn't the best, we are sure to rebound.

MidAtlantic states would be your best bet - Virginia, North Carolina, Maryland, etc...I lived in Virginia for 9 years and it was a perfect balance of climates

Actually, it depends on where you are in the Northeast. Closer to the coast is milder than inland, like Syracuse where I am. With that said, you might like something like Virginia around the Tidewater/Hampton Roads area, North Carolina(Charlotte, Raleigh, Greensboro, Winston-Salem, etc) or Upstate South Carolina(Greenville, Spartansburg, Clemson, Anderson, etc.).

If you want the Northeast, you might like New Jersey, southern Pennsylvania(Harrisburg, York, Lancaster, etc.), Long Island or southern Connecticut.

Sounds to me like D.C., Philly or NYC metro areas.

Well Atlanta, Charlotte, or the Mid-Atlantic states. I mean weather is extreme everywhere but its tolerable in those places.

Where about in Michigan do you live? I live in Flushing, just west of flint. We are currently trying to decide where to move, I am tired of all the crap here.

I'm about an hour north of Detroit. It's not bad, I dont have a problem with my city other than the 'snobs' I would just like to be on the east coast. I'm still young, I might as well do it while there isn't much holding me back.
