Boston, Massachusetts should be in the top 10.

Wow I'm suprised to see Houston and Chicago on that list. I mean both are reasonably priced cities as a whole although some parts can be quite pricey. I'm suprised NOT to see San Diego, Boston, or Palm Beach on that list.

Then again I'm not sure if I quite grasp this concept. Do you have a link or something because I'm fairly confused on what they meant by an expensive city... I mean Houston is a great city but I'm not sure how they could get on that list before Boston, Seattle, Portland, etc.

Well I believe it. Those are gorgeous. In a place like Chicago, it would be more than worth it, but not down here.

I think everybody is missing the point of this thread. It wasn't an opinion based survey. These are not cities that they think are the most expensive. The list was produced from facts and data. Surprise, surprise...everything is not always what it seems.

Here are the other most expensive U.S. cities that didn't make the top 10.
AGAIN, KEEP IN MIND THAT IT IS NOT JUST HOUSING PRICES

11. Boston, Massachusetts
12. Atlanta, Georgia
13. Denver, Colorado
14. Seattle, Washington
15. St. Louis, Missouri
16. Cleveland, Ohio
17. Portland, Oregon
18. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
19. Detroit, Michigan
20. Winston-Salem, North Carolina

Boston came in at the number 10 spot in 2005

Do you have a link or something because this is pretty confusing...

Cleveland, Atlanta, St. Louis, Pittsburgh, Detroit, and Winston-Salem are not expensive cities to live in; I'd say these are some of the least expensive cities in the US for overall cost-of-living. Where are Phoenix, Las Vegas, Santa Fe on this list, they're fairly expensive compared to most of those...

I'm doubting the validity of this list...

Me, too. I can't imagine what criteria they used. Housing IS the major portion of living expenses in a city.

PARTS of PHX, LV and Sante Fe are expensive, and not really all that bad. Where in those cities can you find a 1 BR condo for 4-600K? For that price you could get yourself a nice 3-4 BR, 3 BA house in Scottsdale for 600K. 600K in ALOT of Chicago and suburbs is the NORM. Outside of PV and Scottsdale (parts of Carefree and Ahwatukee), PHX's prices are dirt cheap, pardon the pun. 10 years from now it might be a different story, but as of today, PHX remains a pretty decent bargain.

Pittsburgh's housing is among the least expensive (some would say cheap) in the country.
