I've skiied all over US and Canada and I can tell you there are very few places that you can fly directly into and not need a car (mountains=skiing not flat areas for runways). That being said there are some airports near some higher end resorts but the cost of flying into them (and lift ticket prices, accomodations) pretty much negates any savings by not having a rental car. You could fly into Denver rent a couple of cars and go to any ski resort you choose. The people who don't ski in your group wouldn't be trapped in the towns which are mainly ski towns. Some places like Winter Park have lots of other fun winter activities. Also be careful selecting mountains if you have novice skiiers in your group. Sorry I don't want to sound preachy if you already know this but nothing can ruin a ski trip faster than having a bunch of novice skiiers scared, hurt and p***ed off. If you're not opposed to Canada, there's some cool skiing in Quebec.

The Reno and Lake Tahoe areas are good for non-skiers with all the casino's and entertainment in the area. A lot of people go to Tahoe who don't ski.
