Any cities that are big on going out and drinking without having a large sports culture? More of a Tom Waits-esque sit-at-the-bar-until-2-AM-and-go-home-and-play-piano vibe?

I don't think a place like that even exists. If it does; it's not in the South.

Portland has an element of that. The only major league team in town is the NBA's Trail Blazers franchise.

I think it depends on where you hang out within that city, and who you hang out with. I think that vibe can somewhat easily be found in NY.

I agree with this. Just find yourself a hipster area with a lot of bars. Most big drinking towns have them.

Depends on where you go. Chicago is a sports obsessed city, nobody who looks around could ever deny that, but not every bar is a sports bar, and there are loads of places that are not part of that culture at all.

LA. The second biggest city in the nation lost not one, but two NFL franchises and can't seem to generate enough interest to establish another one.

Nashville maybe? There's sports fans, but they're not overwhelming. And New York City. Its a big professional sports city, but in many neighborhoods (esp parts of Brooklyn and certain parts of Manhattan) there is little to no concern with sports whatsoever.

I'm not so sure. What about NOLA?
