My family is German and moved to Lexington, Kentucky. It is cheap, safe, with a lot to do.
I recommend it.

Philadelphia may be a bit extreme for someone moving from an Eastern European country...
I'd suggest a small-mid sized CITY for someone first coming to the US, then stepping ones way up.

I would suggest somewhere in the south, Like Atlanta, charlotte, nashville. These places may have more jobs than other areas. The Great plains area also has low unemployment, check Oklahoma city, Rapid city, Omaha. Avoid the midwest, Illinois Indiana Michgian and Ohio are ground zero for the economic disaster in the US. Also avoid the northeast states, they have an extremly high cost of living. Good luck in your search, you have 1 year to make the right choice. Welcome to the USA when you get here.

Welcome and thank you for getting a green card first.

I would suggest a mid sized city or town as well. Our larger cities can be overwhelming if you do not have friends or families. What type of work are you looking for? That would also help you in your decisions. TX is still stronger than some of the other states as far as employement. AZ is still shedding jobs, especially in construction. The very best of luck to you and enjoy!!!!
