Watching tonight's Grammy Awards, it dawned on me that there are so many award shows held in LA every year. Tonight was the Grammy Awards, last week there was the Screen Actor's Guild awards, then in a few weeks the Oscars will also be in LA too. I haven't even gone through half of all the award shows that have probably already taken place, not to mention the ones that will be held later on in the year like the Teen Choice Awards. It seems like the only major awards show NOT held in LA is the MTV Video Music Awards, but even then, they have another award show called the MTV Movie Awards which is held in LA every May.

My question to you all is which cities do you see hosting award shows in the future, or which city do you think deserves to be burdened with award show activities?

Los Angeles is a major, or the major, center of the American entertainment industry. NYC is probably the other. Now if book awards or science prizes are all being hosted in LA that might be a tad more perplexing, but I don't think that's happening.

Still I could see holding some country music awards in Nashville or Austin. Possibly Blues or Gospel awards in Memphis or Mississippi. Chicago has a notable history for comedy what with Second City and all. Boston does too as I think that's where many Harvard Lampoon types started. The Sundance Film Festival has awards and it's in Utah I believe.

Despite all that I think LA and NYC will be a centerpiece for award shows for a long time.

Put the Grammys in Omaha. That would be a treat.

It makes sense naturally.

Most films are produced in Los Angeles, hence most actors/actresses live in and around Los Angeles.

If you're going to host awards shows and want the most people possible to be able to show up - you're going to host it near where they live/work.

Plus it's a city where you don't have to have as many worries/issues with the weather. Makes it easier to plan without having to be as stressed about the weather causing havoc/raining/snowing/cold/hot.

Even the VMA's are held in LA every now and then, including 2008.

It's only natural since that is where a lot of people in the entertainment industry live and/or work. NYC would be the only other city comparable that could host as many award shows.
