In this particular thread, I disagree with you on the bolded. People who like to look at maps (like me) will say Louisville is Southern simply because it is part of Kentucky. Its not usually that complicated for us.

For people who like to describe an area by culture, which I think the OP was trying to do, now that is more complicated and open to debate.
