First i want to say thanks for everyones help

I am 44 years old, wife is 29 and 2 daughters ages 2 and 5. I used to work for an airline for 20 yrs but got fed up and quit. I have a college degree in geography but its pretty much useless. I have always done customer service in the travel business and my wife does not have any particular skills. We are looking for a large city, that is inexpensive, warm and a good place to raise a family. We will be going there looking for work,so we need somewhere with plenty of jobs... I was thinking about the dallas area as first choice... Please anyone that lives in the dallas area, let me know how things are there. Also if anyone else has any suggestions i am open to anything. We have lived in las vegas and phoenix in the past and they are not great places for families..It doesnt have to be warm all the time, but my wife hates the winters. We have also lived in illinois and nebraska and thats why she hates the cold....thanks again

damn! i'm a current geography major... it won't be useless to me though, i'm planning on going into demography, or even cartography or tourism. there ARE things you can do with it, i know that and i'm only an 18 yr old freshman. you could always teach with it too!

i'd say your own suggestion of dallas sounds like your best bet, maybe even little rock, AR if it's big enough for you.

Check out Lafayette, Louisiana. There's about 115,000 people so it has big city qualities while maintaining a small-town feel. It's got good public and private schools. Also, probably the least-corrupt police department in the south. Not a whole lot of crime either.

Dallas. Airport hub city and meets all your other criteria, plus it was your first choice. You should usually go with that, IMO.

Or Houston.
