We live in Southcentral Alaska (like Anchorage) and if we want want to travel to our State Capitol or the Lower-48 by car, we must cross the Canadian border twice. Both Canadian and American Customs want to know who, what, and why. We've been searched by both Customs Officers. If you have a record like DUI you CANNOT enter Canada. The Alaska Ferry System from Bellingham, WA will get you only to Ketchikan, Wrangell, Juneau, Haines or Skagway and to go farther to Southcentral Alaska by car, you must pass through Canada.
A guy told me a few yrs back he was denied entrance into canada cause he was in jail some 30 yrs ago. It was not a felony. The crime was theft & he spent a few months in county jail. Is it possble canada really did turn him away ?

I got pulled over in Arizona by border patrol. We were not even near the border and we got searched. It was pretty hardcore.
