Hi all. I'm a single mom with a two year old girl. I currently live in NJ and working as a legal assistant. I live at home with no rent and I barely can afford to pay my bills and daycare (which daycare alone is close to $1,200 a month!!)

I'm looking to relocate somewhere that I can afford to take care of me and my daughter. Need some place where I can find a job and in a decent area with a good school system.

I don't mind the 4 seasons but wouldn't mind a more mild state.

Any suggestions??

Fort Bend County - Jobs

Check out places like Sugarland and Missouri City TX next to Houston. Beautiful upscale suburbs with great people, good schools and close to all the culture and amenties of Houston.

Welcome to DeKalb County Schools

Also check out Dekalb county Georgia (suburban Atlanta). Nice and upscale close to all the amenities and culture of Atlanta

I would look at big cities which would tend to have big law firms. Anywhere you go is going to be cheaper than NY/NJ except maybe CA and DC.
Chicago, Minneapolis/St Paul, Atlanta, Denver? The further south you go, the better the climate, but I believe the wages are a lot lower than in the north.

I actually have a friend who lives in Altanta, Decatur (spelling??) county and has been asking me to try out there. I've looked up Altanta before and didn't read such good things about the area or their school system. My friend actually just moved to Doraville and I'm going to visit in April sometime so I'll see how it is there.

I will look at Dekalb County too!

I understand that the wages are lower in the south but I'm hoping even with the lower wages it will be more affordable than NJ - SIGH!

Thanks everyone!

Many Midwestern states are affordable. Some that come to mind are:

Cincinnati, Columbus, and Cleveland, Ohio
Indianapolis, Indiana
Louisville and Lexington, Kentucky
St. Louis, Missouri
all of Iowa
