Im relocating in a few months, I will be going to Fort Worth if everything goes as planned, my questions is, which of these 3 cities would you choose to live in?
lets consider the people, jobs, size of the cities, crime and things to do and COL
San Antonio- Least familiar with this city of the 3. I notice lots of people in Texas say SA has a very distinct feel. Most seem to really like it but some don't. It has the heaviest mexican influence which is either a pro or con, depending on your perspective. The north end of town has a little of the hill country which is beautiful. You are also unde 90 miles away from Austin and not too far from Houston. Peronally, I think SA is the most unique of the 3 cities.
Ft Worth- Kind of get's overshadowed by Dallas. I almost went to work for FWFD and spent several weekends in town. I lke how FW has a little bit of a distinct feel from the rest of the metroplex. You'll have most everything you need there but have the option to find recreation opporunities on a bigger scale just by heading east. This area probably has the most moderate climate of the 3.
KC- KC is one of my fav cities. Because of having the name Kansas, people think it's completely flat. KC has some nice rolling terrain. What I like about the area is they get plenty of rainfall and the trees grow very tall and the grass is very lush. The summers are much more mild than Texas and I don't think the humidity is as bad as some other areas. Winters can be terrible but everywhere has been cold this winter. Some will say KC lacks night life but it's improving. Downtown power and light district is nice. Country club plaza is great upscale shopping and very cool architecture. I think KC has some urban living opportunities very affordable. KC houses have basements. I think that's a plus but you won't find many all brick or stone homes like Texas. Overland Park and Olathe are also considered very family friendly and have great schools. I personally love KC but really like all 3 of these cities. Honestly it will depend on your personal tastes.
knrstz gives some pretty good commentary. In general, all three of these are fairly laid-back cities. Because FtW is part of a huge metro area, it will sort of feel like the most hectic, although it is the laid-back portion of the metroplex. IMO the cultural scene is superior in FtW to Dallas, but the party scene in Dallas is more pervasive. Also (this is a plus or minus depending on your preferences) Ft Worth is located near a humongous airport which means relatively convenient air travel to anywhere...but also more crowds than KCI.
San Antonio has the best Tex-Mex in the state but (again IMO) Ft Worth has the second best. BBQ wise, I tend to like TX style better than KC style but your mileage may vary.
I was surprised by the growing urbanity of Kansas City the only time I visited it for a prolonged period of time. I imagine the cost of living is a bit less than SAN or FTW but don't know for sure (and I doubt they are that much different from each other overall). It definitely has more of a midwest culture vibe.
Hope this helps some...
