If you could live anywhere in The U.S., regardless of cost of living, where would it be, and why?

San Francisco, I left my heart there.

anywhere except south of I-10 in the deep south, or west of the Rockies as long as I could have about 80 acres, a home custom built using the new circulatory solid wood or concrete designs, and a self-sustaining power of my own (combination, solar, wind, geothermal heating/cooling, backup generator)

given all that, the location won't matter :-)

I would choose California, either Santa Cruz, or SLO area. There's something I love about the lifestyle, the cool weather, and the beautiful beaches. I used to have so much fun riding ATVs around the Oceano dunes, and then hitting a karaoke bar with friends afterwards. It's not as large as Portland, but San Francisco and LA are just a short drive away.

I would live right near the White Mountain National Forest in New Hampshire. It is a spectacular area and the ocean is not that far away either, only a couple hours of driving!
