Which city in the US has the warmest people, those that are easy going, friendly and will go out of their way to help you and where the cost of living is low?

You can mention a city you presently live in, have lived in or visited for substantial length of time. Discuss!

No, at least in my opinion, that is not right.

dsv, perhaps your metrics are different than mine, but to me, Charleston, SC does not have a low cost of living. When you consider the low wages/salaries, hurricane insurance, flood insurance, high real estate/rent costs, the necessity of owning a vehicle, high costs for food, parking, recreation, etc. - then I wouldn't consider Charleston cheap, especially downtown.

You're right about the other things, though, it's a great place to visit and a great place to live.

As long as youre not from Illinois, I find the folks in Wisconsin to be absolute gems who would go out of their way for you.

I'm no expert on the area, but my husband and I are relocating to Kansas City, MO this summer. We've only spent 2 weeks there but the people there are much more friendly than here in NJ. We struck up conversations with so many people, at so many places, when we visited. That never happens here. And the cost of living is very reasonable.

I had the same experience in NJ. Many people seem to have the same feeling about NJ but there are exceptions to the rule. Wisconsin....."as long as you're not from Illinois".....lol Actually, Wisconsin seems more welcoming to select suburbanites while shunning others. Still a nice place but oh so cold......
What's the population in Madison now?
