In a similar vein, I get a kick out of reading some of the threads from FL and CA where people ask about "areas to avoid"--high crime, gangs, drugs, mayhem, etc. The town, neighborhood and street names sound so idyllic, but the reality of the place is ghetto. Like, "Don't even think of moving to the Rancho Relaxo area of town", "Serenity Lagoon is OK but only if you stay away from the Whispering Pines area north of Pleasant Lake Rd.", or "The Hacienda Heights gang has made the Gulf Breeze neighborhood a living hell."
They just don't have the punch of names like South Side, 31st Street, Hell's Kitchen, the Hough, Black Bottom, South Bronx, Third Ward, Ironbound, etc.
No offense to the Garden State, but why do half of your towns sound like infectious diseases when you say them?
Dude, alot of those are Native American names Theyre very unique and I happen to LOVE towns/cities with Indian names. We have quite a few here in Illinois, naturally: Algonquin, Ottawa, Peoria, Fox, Pottawatomie, etc. I think thats awesome.
Yeah that's funny with all the names from New Jersey.
DOn't know too many unpleasant sounding names.....there's Nags Head and Kill Devil Hills in North Carolina but those towns more than make up for it with their natural beauty and charm.
hmmm...pleasant you say? How about Great Falls, Montana? Grand Forks, North Dakota? International Falls, Minnesota? Colorado Springs, CO?
NOT PLEASANT NAMES--Lynchburg, Virginia
I think I'm gonna move to Idaho and form a town called "Falls Springs."
Anyone tried that yet?
You've got a point on Southern town names.
