Does anybody know if IKEA is expanding in the USA and if where? There used to be just a few IKEA's in the USA and now there are quite a few. Is there any data showing where some may be being built or are in plan to be built?
I was surprised to see one just north of Cincinnati. I guess its for both Cincinnati and Dayton...
If cinncy has the "power" to have one, that basically means the rest of the USA's cities should have one too =)
The largest one in the US is in Atlanta, or at least it was when it opened a couple of years ago. One of the reasons I like Atlanta's IKEA is that it's right smack in the middle of the city (on an old steel mill site) and not way out in the suburbs. I heard that the largest IKEA in the world is in Montreal.
A new one has opened or is almost ready to open in Charlotte. They also just opened one in suburban Salt Lake City. I'm really surprised there's not one in Nashville or Raleigh.
Built in Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania; has since moved to Conshohocken, Pennsylvania. The original IKEA building is in the process of being demolished.[7] In 1992, IKEA acquired the California based STØR chain, adding 3 of that chain's 4 locations to their US presence. Stores currently under development are Tampa in Florida[dated info] and North Carolina's first store in Charlotte; the latest store opening as of August 2008 was IKEA's first store in New York City, namely in Brooklyn[dated info]. On September 10, 2008, it was announced that IKEA would be opening a store in Centennial, Colorado.[8]
