Second, I don't think it would make life easier at all. THEY are coming into OUR country. We should speak English and refuse to do business in Spanish with those stubborn, selfish, clannish people, rather than bend over backwards to accomodate, and then THEY will get the message that it will make THEIR lives easier to learn ENGLISH.
Wow. You do realize tons and tons of Mexicans and immigrants from other countries who actually do put a ton of effort into learning English, right?

What an ignorant and unintelligent fool.

We don't need an official language. It makes as much sense as having an official mushroom.

Yes, I read exactly what you said and you mentioned nothing of Mexican children learning English.

You did however say that Americans should be forced to learn Spanish. Yet if someone ever said the reverse, half of you people would fly off the handle and start saying "They're in Mexico! It's their country! Arrogant Americans trying to interfere and be world police! Racist!"

Yes.

I am also aware that the largest national group is from Mexico, and larger still is the overall number of Hispanics speaking, of course, Spanish. Also, most threads in the political forum surrounding immigration already have an overtone of discussion about Hispanics/the Spanish language. Obviously the vibe I got (particularly when speaking SPANISH was mentioned) was that we weren't talking about Vietnamese, Ethiopians, or Swedes.

2. have you ever traveled outside of the country before?? just curious...if so, where did you go?
Yes.

Canada, Italy, and Malta.

Yes, and I don't care, as that is not what the discussion is about. The post I was replying to was about Americans being "forced" to learn Spanish in order to deal with the "future". Sorry, but that's not my future and the more it is pushed by pathetic socialist ultra-progressive dirtbag elites in New York and D.C., the more it will meet fierce resistance by true Americans.

You are the ignorant one to sell your country away, but I guess it pleases you to watch your towns and cities change for the worse as you bend over for some illegal migrant. What a pathetic post. I would expect nothing less from the backwater cesspool of Chelsea, Manhattan.

English should be the official language of Buissness documents and law etc so that things don't get confusing

Encourage an array of languages though

You realize if we gave amnesty to these illegal workers they would not only provide a healthy tax base to pay for themselves, but continue to support many sectors of our economy which they are the common worker for... Like the California agricultural sector!

For real, if we deny them from working here for cheap, our companies and corporations will deny anyone from working here as they ship more jobs over the borders.

On that note... I've seen more Mexicans try to assimilate than Russians. Why aren't we kicking them out? I hear Russian on the street all the time. They have far less respect for American culture.

Maybe there should be an easier way to legally immigrate and pursue these less-than skilled careers. In my opinion giving amnesty to illegal immigrants is a huge insult to all of the people in the world, who would wish to immigrate legally to the US. What do you think..?

My answer was english only. It's not a very hard language to learn, and many around the world learn it either in school, or in some other way. It's easy and most efficient to conduct day-to-day business with no more than one official language. Nothing against learning other languages, just feel that none of the others should get such special preference.

Believe me, I think it should be easier for everyone.

However, a lot of families, including many of my friends who are fluent in English and some members of my early family (grandparents) crossed over this border illegally and set up great lives for their children.

America is the land of opportunity and we must not forget we too were ALL illegal immigrants at one time (unless you're pure native)

Also, our Hispanic immigrants have a great reputation for being hard, cheap workers.

I've worked with a lot of all races in various positions, by far the hardest working and most productive workers are the "illegal Mexican scum", while some of our legal eastern European friends are among the laziest, sleeziest people I've ever had the chance of meeting. I guess I'm simply biased as it's been a pure pleasure to supervise a few illegals back when it wasn't such a "horrible" crime to hire one, back before this all blew up in the media.

In no way am I being racist, it is simply a product of the culture that happens to match up.

Why should these rogue corporations have the final say? Prosecute corporations who hire illegals and ship jobs overseas. Send their CEOs to federal court and then prison.

We don't need "cheap" labor. We need quality labor that employs Americans.

If a corporation loses a few percentage points in profit because they have to actually hire a citizen of their own country for something hire than a slave wage, so be it.

I'm not sure what area of the country you're referring to, but by and large, Russians are not coming in en masse. Most cable packages don't include Russian channels as they do for Spanish, there is no "Press 2 for Russian", Russian signs are not predominant in any area of the country I've ever been in save Brighton Beach/Brooklyn. Russians have tight-knit communities but I certainly do not get a sense of them trying to force their language/culture on the U.S., as many Hispanics, including illegals from Mexico, have done.
