Default Move to Lumpkin county

My husband and I reside in South Florida and are considering a move to North Georgia, more specifically Lumpkin county. (We love the country way of life but still need to be close to work.) Hurricanes, outrageous homeowners insurance rates and property taxes are among our reasons for leaving the state. Also, for me, teaching in Florida is very stressful due to heavy emphasis on state testing. My husband is an electrician with 25 years of experience... the bulk of which is in commercial and industrial work and he has a great job with a good company here on FLA... he would not be able to transfer. I have a a good friend living in Forsyth county who is also a teacher and she has continually sung the praises of Georgia since she moved. Lower cost of living, higher pay for teachers and an educational system that values its teachers. We visited recently and loved the area but are wondering if there's a downside to living in that area that we are unaware of. Are there job opportunities in this area for our professions? Any info provided would be greatly appreciated.

Hi RKKB.
My hubby and I live in White county, Cleveland to be specific, which is Lumpkin county's next door neighbor. Both counties are equally beautiful with perfect climates and low crime rates. Both are easily accessible to Atlanta with Lumpkin probably being closer to the interstate.
We are currently looking to downsize our housing since our kids have married and moved out. We are looking to move to Tennessee before the end of the year.
There will be no shortage of great electrical jobs around this area as building is booming. White county was named one of the top 5 counties in the nation for growth last year but still retains the wonderful small town charm.
Hope this helps and I'll be happy to help with any more questions if I am able.

My husband and I will be moving up to Dahlonega (from Jacksonville) the first of next month. I first visited Dahlonega back about 15 years ago and left my heart there. When my husband was asked if he wanted to transfer to Atlanta we jumped on it. I am a native Floridian and hate what this place has become. I'm sure I'll miss it in some ways, but I am ready to go. I can't wait to get my kids out of the Florida school system and in to one that really cares about the kids and teachers alike. I don't see how you could go wrong with the move. It's like heaven up there compared to here. Good luck!
