Hi I m looking for a small quaint town to move to . The perfect town would be a town with small town buisnesses, the general store , a bank, some shops ect, The population less then 5000.That has town dances and events ect. But a town that is about 20-30 mins. from a small city that would offer a grocery store , ect..If anyone knows of one in Georgia , North Carolina or Florida please let me know thinking of making a big move from New England

Greensboro is pretty excellent. It's about as close as you can be to Atlanta while remaining solidly outside of the influence of the city--about 75 miles east of downtown on I-20--so there's a lot less tourism and bustle than, say, Madison. It's the kind of place where the pharmacist tapes perscriptions to his front door when he heads off to lunch. Pretty decent downtown for its size, lots of old houses, lake Oconee is five minutes away, Athens (college town of 200,000) is a half hour away. Definitely worth checking out.

To me, GA Hwy 278 is like a 'string of pearls' linking the charming towns that sit along it: Social Circle, Madison, Greensboro, Washington and Lincolnton. You're seeing what I refer to as the 'real Georgia' when you pass through these towns.
As far as Greensboro goes, it's proximity to Lake Oconee and Athens along with its' down home charm positions it to the next Madison IMO.

I've definitely noticed this too. Going to UGA my girlfriend and I used to take day trips into the country down there pretty often--the fact that we'd often choose this area over the nearby mountains of north Georgia speaks to how pleasant it is. Madison is another great town, but definitely larger and more tourist-oriented, with two great town squares.

I've often thought an awesome rail project would link Atlanta, Conyers, Covington, Social Circle, Madison, and Greensboro, and eventually all the way to Augusta. It would be very marketable to tourists.

Unfortunately the CSX rail line through the area doesn't go through Washington (which I agree is great) or Lincolnton (which I've never been to). I'm honestly not sure how busy the rail line is, but the idea is probably impractical.
