Just returned
Just got back from spending 4 days in Carrollton and I really liked what I saw. People were very friendly and I don't feel that we were stared at in any way. We spent a good deal of time eating out and the service was exemplary. The food at Sunset Hills CC was great and the people there were friendly as well. Overall, a very good experience. I'm leaning toward relocating there and looked at some property in Oak Mtn. golf...very nice indeed.
Thanks for all of the responses!
Cheers,
PMMD

Carrollton is fine for diversity - I don' t understand why people can make such opinionated statements and thn say they have never even visited the place. It is rural mostly in the sense that it's access to the expressway is not so great. It takes about 20 minutes just to hit I-20 at Villa Rica. Other than the drive, it is really an unusually cultured rural town. It is an old town and not really that small, in the sense that you would consider a small rural town. Ironically, it's greatest con to me is it's distance from an expressway, but I am certain that this characteristic is what has made Carrollton as unique as it is. If you don' t mind the drive (which is all 4 lane by the way), then it is a definitely must see.

Like PMMD, we are a mixed family and, as such, have to ask certain questions about a place before we relocate there. Might sound strange, but it's a way of life. And it's not just Georgia; it's anywhere. Heck, when my wife and I were first dating 20+ years ago, we had terrible comments made to us---in California of all places. So the potential for problems exists anywhere.
Though we probably won't consider Carrollton--too far from Buckhead--it's good to know that one can feel safe. Good luck, PMMD.

Same could be said of other cities and states. There's a big difference between NYC and the towns of upstate New York. All cities are going to be different from the towns of their state.

I too live in Carrollton and love it. I hope that you have a pleasant visit. My family and I have lived in Carrollton for about 7 years, moving here from Cobb County. I am Hispanic and my husband Caucasian and have had no problems whatsoever since moving here. The moms of the community were quick to give me advice about teachers and the schools when I first moved here and no idea about any of that. I have made life long friends here. You can still find judgemental people in the area but like the previous poster said unfortunately can still be found just about any where. When we first moved here the town was not diverse at all but the last few years have brought more diversity into the community and that also brings growth and development. Good Luck with the interview and your move whether it is to Carrollton or elsewhere.

It is laughable that so many refer to certain cities as "liberal" when they actually mean "diverse".

Trust me, areas that are 50 miles from ATL are definitely no longer immune to growth. I lived in Jefferson, which is about 50 miles NE of ATL, and it is much smaller than Carrollton, yet it has seen significant growth in population and businesses over the past few years.

I am in Buchanan right now, about 15 miles north of Carrollton and have been here fairly often in thepast 2 months due to a death in the family. Carrollton is the closest town, so I've gone there fairly often to rent cars (only one Enterprise), shop, eat out, etc. It seems a nice town.
My hesitation in relocating to Carrollton (and Atlanta) would be that everything seems to require driving so much. Example, Barnes and Noble is 45 min away. I've been looking for a winter place in the N. Georgia hills, but am beginning to be concerned due to similar driving from there.
Carrollton is prob more liberal due to college town, but the small towns near by in E Alabama remain very prejudiced. My bro has a weekend farm in one of them and my sis-in-law has talked about how bad it is.
