I drove through there on a recent trip to Georgia and it seemed like a nice area. I am looking to move south and i am having a hard time finding what I am looking for. Thanks for any replies.

I live in Byron, and yes it is a nice area. I live in south Byron, near the old Powersville area. Small town, but convenient to Warner Robins and Macon...What is it you are looking for?

This is basically what I am looking for

1. Small town
2. Older homes
3. Maybe a main street...
4. Within an hour drive of a larger city (for jobs)
5. Somewhat close to some body of water
6. A place where most people know each other and are friendly
7. Good Schools
8. Active community

Right now I live in PA in between Baltimore and Harrisburg. I have to drive at least 20 minutes to get to anything decent in shopping (which I don't mind). I also drive an hour to work each way (again, I don't mind) I live in a very small town that I love, people are very friendly, cheap to live, plenty to do outdoors, they have street fairs and barbeques. It is a great place but I hate the cold and snow. I am looking for somewhere similar in a warmer climate.
If it wasn't for the snow and cold I would stay.

Byron might be it. You might also want to look a little further south (10 miles or so) at Perry, GA. Both towns are good choices with good schools.

The good schools and active community part are what is hard. Small towns in the south generally don't have the best schools and are kind of sleepy. There are some areas around Eatonton that might fit your bill as well. I am not an expert on the schools, but it is definitely an active area on the banks of Lake Sinclair.
