Our family is growing so we went house hunting for a larger home and could not find anything reasonable... for example any 5/3 2500 sq ft home will run from $550,000+ (in a nice area) this is when we decided to look into relocating and so far are looking at new communities in Dacula.

Any info on Dacula would be appreciated. We have visited once and love it! The only thing we are not used to is the dark roads. In Miami everything is lighted.
Dacula? Is that next to Fankenstein?
Seriously, gabound, I know someone who moved to that area, and it is growing at such a pace, that in a few years it may not be the place you are now looking for. It's a great area, but I think there may be some quality-of-life issues down the road that are not that far from what you are now trying to escape.

Thank you for the positive reply given . I was a bit afraid after reading another posting. I'm retired and my husband still is working and we are relocating for his job and I really will need to find something to do in or around Hinesville.

Living in Savannah is ok. Do you like heat and beaches? The city itself has good and bad parts. The islands, southside, and suburbs are nice though.

Hinesville, I think, is mainly Fort Stewart. I drove through a little bit of liberty county and it looked like you will have lots of space between you and your neighbors.

Default Traffic

As for traffic you will have to learn when the best times for travel are and the best ways to get there. Unless you have to be in rush hour, avoid it completely especially on the northside of the city. No matter where you are headed, there will be many different ways to get there. If you want to work in Atlanta but live in a suburb and you will be working regular business hours, you are not going to be able to avoid traffic problems. The guy who advised you to live near where you work was right on the money. I have a 30 minute rule as far as work is concerned. If my average drive ever exceeds that one way then it is time to either move or change jobs. I have no desire to live more than an hour a day in my car going to and from work. Just not worth it to me no matter what. The sprawl of Atlanta is heading north fast. Roswell traffic can be as bad or worse than driving in downtown Atlanta.

The southside of Atlanta metro is booming with development and population growth, and morning traffic stretches down to Newnan on I85 and to McDonough on I75 in Henry County (one of the top 10 fastest growing counties in the U.S.). From what I've been reading recently, interest in Atlanta has shifted south the trend is to continue for a while. Fairburn in South Fulton has doubled in size in the last 5 years, and Peachtree City has grown a lot as well. Marietta won't be the center of anything except Marietta...Downtown Atlanta will continue to be the central focus of the area.

Oh of course, downtown Atlanta will be the focus for culture and sports and such. I think the article was referring to Marietta as becoming the geographic center of the metro area.

Right...that's why I pointed out the shifting interest and development on the southside. It kind of squashes Marietta being the center of anything.

Default Best place to live

Personally, I like living in Buckhead because it is a reverse commute to everything. You could work in any suburb, and if you live in Buckhead, you will be watching all the traffic coming into the city as you head out of it. I have had my car 10 years. It has 96,000 miles on it, and yet it has been down to FL at least 15, maybe 20 times, it's been to D.C. and Virginia twice, it's been to Chicago twice and even to Minneapolis. Traffic is never a problem in Buckhead because everything you need is 5 miles or less from your house. Also, there are numerous awesome private schools sprinkled throughout the area, and a few award-winning public schools, too.
