Between Auburn/Opelika/Phenix City and Athens. Overall, downtown Athens is more dense than any of the cities mentioned above. Athens by far has the best downtown in Georgia (maybe with the exception of Savannah )

While Athens feels larger, I would still Aiken is by the far the most dense city of them all..

I chose Aiken county because the two largest cities have real downtown settings... Plus after Athens, Aiken has the next best downtown.... Though I did enjoy myself when I visited downtown Auburn..

When I traveled through the Columbus area... North Augusta seemed to be a denser city compared to Phoenix city... And Aiken felt much deser than the city Auburn.. Even with the strict SC annexiation laws...

Having lived in 2 out of the 4 and having been to all 4, that's my opinion.

Just curious? What cities have you lived and been to? Never been to Houston County but I've visted all the others before....

Here are some intresting stats... Keep in mind South Carolina has strict annexation laws...

Aiken 2006 population 29k in 16 miles...1,566.3 sq mi
North Augusta 2008 population 21k in 18 miles.... 1,204.2 sq mi
Phenix City 2006 population 30k in 25 miles... 1,139.7 sq mi
Auburn 2009 poulation 58k in 40 miles... 954.8 sq mi

Athens is 155k in 118 sq. miles.. But the city is consolidated with the entire county...

Lived in Columbus, Athens (UGA undergrad), and different areas of Atlanta. Been to Aiken and Warner Robins. Of all of the cities, Auburn has grown much faster than the others.

Where are you getting these number from because the last i checked Athens-Clark was just over 110K...... Where is this 155K coming from, To honest Warner Robins is larger at Almost 60K and little over 22 sq mi and feels more dense than them all.....

I meant to put 116k instead of 155k for the Athens population.. In my initial post I did post 116k for the population...

I got the population stats from the census...

I don't agree with that, Auburn may have seen a lot of growth but in comparison with statics Warner Robins have experienced more growth in Population and development that them all Within in the last 10 years W. Robins has tripled in size, population and growth..... In the late 90s to early 2000s W. Robins only had about about 20,000 people and now its at 56-60K people and still climbing Plus with the added growth in development as well.....The principle city of Athens before the consolidation wasn't even at 50k before the merger. Houston county is one of the fastest growing counties in the State of Ga not in Metro Atlanta.
