Arrow I-75 in middle Georgia

Am I the only person who's noticed that the concrete segments of I-75 between Macon and Cordele are deteriorating? The asphalt segment near Perry is fine, but to the north and south of it are two concrete segments that are showing their age.

The northern concrete segment has uneven lanes in some areas, and there are aspots where red clay seems to be coming up through the expansion joints between the lanes, staining the highway. The southern concrete segment is just becoming rutted and bumpy in the outer and middle lanes in each direction. (I get the sense that the inner lanes in each direction are newer since they're still smooth.)

Has anybody else noticed this? Does anybody know of any plans to reconstruct these segments of highway once the six-lane widening is all done near Cordele and Tifton?

Good... i'm glad i'm not the only one who noticed it. I was in Forsyth for PT in the State trooper program the other week. Rode to see downtown Macon, as i'm not in the area that often and needless to say... I'll never complain about the state of I-20 around Augusta again.

I was very surprised at it's condition... somebody didn't get the memo on the "shovel ready jobs" portion of the 800 Billion dollar stimulus bill... (rolls eyes)

Long stretches of I-16 between Macon and Dublin are in horrible shape, too particularly the outer lanes. It rattles your teeth. I have heard it blamed on the increase in heavy truck traffic coming and going to the ports.

That's very true, Newsboy. I had to run to Dublin yesterday. My passenger complained about me riding that outer lane lol. Then it turned into a single lane for a small stretch because of road work. I believe this was around Bleckley Co.

I know it's against the law but as a rule and to save my tires/suspension I stay in the inside lanes on I-16 most of the time. It improves a lot the closer you get to Savannah but still there's stretches all along the way where the outside lanes are almost undriveable.

Yeah, I-75 on the north side of Macon is pretty bad too. They need to six-lane it. I've heard that there are plans to rebuild the I-75/I-16 interchange pretty soon, which is good because it needs it.

Anyway, the segments of I-75 I was talking about specifically were about MM 153 to MM 144 (uneven lanes), and MM 127 to MM 107 (general roughness).

No, it's been under construction from Cordele south. I'm talking about a couple of segments north of Cordele that are beginning to show their age.

I drive through there a few times a year, and never noticed how bad of shape the stretch of I-75 is you mention. I will look more closely next time to see, as I am sort of curious.

yeah didnt they already repave that area circa 2005??

i just take i16>i95 down to miami now. i got tired of all the drama on 75 and highway robberies that occur on top of it all. i mean tax collection.. i meant drug enforcement.. i meant 50 cops sitting in the median @ 3am

it is just a shame for the state. it's been going for far too long and it will never end because work zones with uneven lanes/shoulders are a moneymaker for the defunct municipalities down there
