I don't claim democrat or republican but I thought this was rather signifcant.. What's your thoughts about to decision to open the first satellite headquarters outside of Atlanta?? Do you think it's a smart move to help the democratic party in future elections? Do you think Augusta was the right choice(maybe you think Savannah or Athens)?

State Democratic Committee to meet in Augusta | The Augusta Chronicle
For the first time in recent memory, the Georgia Democratic state committee is meeting in Augusta. The meeting, taking place March 26 at the downtown Marriott Hotel, is the first under new state party Chairman Mike Berlon, and precedes the opening of a new Democratic regional field headquarters in Augusta.

Holding a state committee meeting and opening a satellite office in Augusta also marks an effort toward decentralizing the state party away from Atlanta, a Berlon initiative, Greenbaum said.

As we move towards 2012, look for the dems to reinforce their strongholds, primarily in cities with large black populations, and college campuses.

Decentralizing the party won't work. They need to keep the black voters in south Georgia loyal, but the white voters down there are a lost cause. They need to focus on luring moderate voters in metro Atlanta

I agree. If the Democrats have any hope in Georgia it will be through positioning the Republicans as extreme and anti-progressive. But they face an uphill battle.

It's hard for me to say what direction the Democratic party should go to get more votes. I do agree that they may have to take more moderate positions, such as going pro-life and pro-gun, while maintaining a strong support for education, the environment, and getting smart on crime. And, of course, there's that pesky state budget.
