Maybe that's why Columbus will soon regain its spot as the second most populous city in Georgia.

Dear GA Boy,
I answered another query you had in another thread and I would like to put my 2cents in here too. Martinez and Evans are both great towns and very much alike. It is hard to tell where one ends and the other begins. You will find friendly, polite people here, even though there are a large number of transplants from the North and elsewhere. The crime rate is low and is mostly shoplifting or personal theft. The taxes are reasonable. The weather is great, although it is hot and humid in the summer. There are a lot of military and retired military in the area. Fort Gordon is just down the road a piece. These two towns are 8 - 10 miles from Augusta. I do not agree with Degusta and think he/she is much too negative, but you really don't want to live in Augusta. The city has a new mayor who is really trying to make a difference and a new school superintendent who is too, and I really hope they succeed. Augusta does have its problems - race and crime are two big ones. The race problem is fed by the City/County Commission who can't agree on anything and if someone made the statement, "It was a dark, black night," someone else would call it a racist statement. However, Augusta does have a lot of pluses - it is a big medical center, arts for any taste and they are really trying to do some positive things. Augusta is a good place to work but not to live. For that you would want Martinez or Evans. And, once again, thanks for defending our country. I sure wouldn't want to see Iraq rule here! |

I quite enjoyed living in Augusta...Its not really as super-conservative as you may think. Over recent years, like much of the Southern Metropolises it has been swarmed by new development and newcomers from the North especially. As a native Southerner I was discriminated against while living in Augusta (since I am from Alabama)...however that does not affect my opinion on the city. There are some very run down areas of the city though, lots of old and abandoned structures, etc.

You are right about being discrimated in Augusta if you are from Alabama.. they almost think of Alabama as a foreign country..even though it is as much a part of the South as Augusta. I think one of the main problem with Augusta is that it has lost a lot of its unique Southern charm and character in exchange for bland suburban sprawl. Savannah on the other hand has made itself a top tourist destination by showcasing its southern heritage, culture, food, and architecture.. Augusta on the other hand allowed it historical areas to wither away and rot.

Augusta isn't the only Georgia area that spits on Alabama...mostly the whole state does, but especially Atlanta. Done it for years. Every state seems to look down on another...Alabama does it to Mississippi, MS does it to Louisiana, Louisiana to Arkansas, AR to...wow, don't think there is anything lower!!!

Augusta has no place putting another city or state down.. I mean really.. it can't get much worse than Augusta.

Club Car and EZ Go are headquartered in Augusta. Those are two I know off the top of my head, disgusta.

No they are not headquartered in Augusta.. EZ is owned by Textron, which is is headquartered elsewhere.. their factory just happens to be in Augusta..Same with Club Car.. It is owned by Ingersol Rand (which I believe is a German Company)... Augusta is a factory town.. not a corporate town.

I dont care who owns them, their headquarters are in Augusta. It's a matter of public record. Companies are bought and sold by corporations everyday..that doesn't change their headquarters.
