My husband's job may take us to Georgia in about a year. We've been wanting to move and love the south so are excited about the possibility. The company is in Valdosta and we'd like to know the good and bad about Valdosta and perhaps Lake Park, Georgia. Is one better than the other? What about schools? We have two pre-teens. We currently live in Louisiana and love to travel especially weekend get-aways with the kids. Where we live now there is really nowhere to get-away on the weekend, but, from what I can tell, we could hit the beaches, Disney World, etc. from Valdosta.

Thanks so much!

Valdosta being around 50,000 in population offers a good number of amenities. There is a bit of diversity there with the air base and the traditional southern black population mixing with the whites. If you don't like as much diversity in the schools, you will look at the Lowndes County Schools, although Valdosta city still gives a good college prep education that may prepare your kids for city life (and work) better.

You will be about equi-distant to the Gulf Coast beaches and the Atlantic Coast beaches. A good family theme park is located here by the name of Wild Adventures that even features great music headliners.
