Try Blairsville, but the property and housing prices are way off. I hate to tell you ,I think no one has answered because I'm pretty sure no place like that exists in Georgia.

Yeah, I mean "Dahlonega" (Duh-lawn-eh-gah) is nicer - small artsy-craftsy tourist town with lots of nice rural stuff to do, but public schools are iffy. Jobs might be a bit scarce, too.

Butterbeans is right-ain't hardly no place like that left in Georgia. I was born n' raised in Young Harris -bit north of Dahlonega. All the Floriduh folks have infiltrated the mountains and prices have skyrocketed.
Now all the Ga. mountain folk are movin' to southern Kentucky(kinda reminds me of what N. Ga looked like afore all the people showed up)

You got that right, Snuffy. =) Seriously, Maybe the best thing to do is look on the Georgia Board of Education website, there is always a shortage of Teachers. Then see where that takes you, and sometimes builders with new subdivisions have incentives for law enforcement and teachers, it's something like "one in every community" or something like that. But you really are close to out of luck on getting all that you are looking for. Darn Floriduh folk.

We lived in Conyers for 20 years (1978-1997) and never would have left had we not wanted to move to the mountains (Hiawassee) to operate a cabin rental business on Lake Chatuge (www.serenity-cove.com). We never even heard of a crime problem. Absolutely loved it. Most of our family lives in the Snellville-Lilburn area and the crime & TRAFFIC is MUCH worse there. Pick your neighborhood right and you will be in one of metro Atlanta's finest places and the home prices are much better. Go for it!

Well, with the above in mind and yes GA is getting crowded. Good God is it ever! I still like the following areas

NORTH-

Dahlonega
Jasper
Clinton

South-
Pine Mountain

It's hard to believe that Georgia is now ranked #8 in the nations state populations.

Have you ever had someone literally NOT believe you when you tell them that? I didn't believe my husband before we were married, all the stats I knew were apparently from when I was in Elementary school (I still thought Florida only had 9 million people). And for some reason most of the people I know were shocked and disbelieving as to how populated Atlanta and the surrounding areas are. Maybe they are in denial. =) Byt the way, Serenity Cove, what a dream come true! My husband has a small carpentry business and he has done alot of work (trim, decks) on houses in the North Georgia Mountains so we love to visit when we can, but it doesn't pay enough for us to live there. As is the problem for alot of people. ( and just a side note, he does all of his own work, no cheap labor, so he has a good rep, but can't expand the company)

Default North Georgia

There is no prettier place in the world than the mountains of North Georgia! I feel sure that you could find exactly what you are looking for. Why don't you take a long weekend to tour the North Georgia area? I am from the western part of the state where there are lots of small towns just nestled in the foothills - Chickamauga, Summerville, Trion, Rome, Dalton, Rossville, LaFayette - pronounced La Fet. I have not lived around there in many years so I don't know about industry, but I imagine a teacher and postal worker would have no problem finding jobs anywhere. Chattanooga, Tenn is the closest city around.
Can't tell you a lot about the Eastern part of the state except that they are more mountainous.
I rather expect that land and prices in general are very reasonable.

What size house do you need? There are still nice homes available for under 200K in the north Georgia mountains and right over the line into NC. Blue Ridge is beautiful, as is Blairsville, Hiwassee and Young Harris. Insurance is a tad cheaper over the line into NC and none of these areas have a high crime rate. I'd be happy to send you some websites that will provide more info, if you'd like.
