They would support it because cities like them would be just graetfull to have one.

There are too many MSAs and CSAs around the country with between 800,000 and right at or a little over 1 million that dont have any pro teams.

I'm sure they would get one waaaaaay before any of the Georgia 2nd Tier metros.

Louisville, Grand Rapids, Austin, Birmingham, Rochester (NY), etc.

Even a few major cities that dont have an NBA team, like Cincinnati, Kansas City, St. Louis, etc.

Well Pop really don't matter for a city to have NBA or NFL its a fan base what matters; perfect Example "GREENBAY, WI" Green Bay's population is 104,057 and Green Bay Metropolitan Statistical Area combined population is 282,599 at the 2000 census and the 2010 population of the Green Bay metropolitan area is 306,241. So based on Pop; what makes you think Macon, Augusta or Columbus couldn't get a professional team? Because all three are about the same size or larger than Green bay plus their Metros are too..... I think it would work in either city with the right support and push; But if I had to choose which city I would pick "MACON"

That's very different though. The Packers started playing WAAAYYY back in 1919! That team has been a part of Green Bay for nearly 100 years now! Add to that the fact that it's a very successful and storied franchise, and that's how they get such great fan support even across the country.

A start-up franchise in one of Georgia's 2nd tier cities wouldn't get very much support right away especially since it's "Falcons Territory." Nobody would try it because there wouldn't be gobs of money to be made right away.

Great post.

Also add to that the fact that the citizens of Green Bay actually own the team, not some Mr. Moneybags investor.

Come on, Augusta barely supports the 2 minor league teams that we have.

Augusta is a golf and basketball town, not a baseball or hockey town. Which game would you rather go to? Minor or Major league basketball game?
