Default Marietta, Roswell, or Newnan?

Hi Everyone,

I'm planning on moving to Georgia within the next year, but I need to do my research. I'm looking at Marietta, Roswell, and Newnan. I'm pretty young, early twenties so I'm looking for a place that has history and culture, but with something to do for someone my age. I'd love to live somewhere with southern hospitality (you can't always find that in the south) with a nice area and nice people. I'm coming from Chicago, so I'm thinking it's going to be a big change. I'm guessing, at the moment, I'll be working more toward Atlanta, commute isn't a big deal to me as long as I'm not in the car for 2 hours. Also, what are the people like in those towns? If you think another town would suit me best, please let me know. Any advice will help!

Thanks!

Stay in Roswell. You will be in the car for a long time commuting from Newnan and Marietta. You are young, that scene is better the closer you are to Atlanta and Roswell has history, etc. A good compromise.

All are IMO odd choices for a person of your age and aspirations. Very suburban, and Newnan will certainly afford you a 2 hr commute back and forth from the city. How did these three get on your radar in the first place?

When I was researching different towns in Georgia, those three stuck out to me. I'm not too sure how I came up with them. But I really liked what I thought they had to offer.

It takes about the same time to get to Atlanta from Roswell or Marietta. Newnan is a beautiful town, but it is a drive! It would be a good idea to visit and see for yourself which of these towns you would feel happier in. Roswell and Marietta both have excellent restaurants and shops and Marietta is noted for its theaters.
Keep us posted : )

I have friends in Marietta and Roswell. They swear by both of these towns. However my 'friends" in Marietta actually work in Atlanta. We all relocated from Michigan, Illinois, and Ohio. While My friends from Ohio and Illnois went to Roswell, my Michigan friends all went to Marietta.

Not sure if this info helps..it is for comparison .

All three are what I would consider 'family-friendly'; young singles in the metro generally opt for the older and more close-in neighborhoods, as you are closer to a higher concentration of entertainment options.

Smile Newnan

I lived in Newnan my whole life, until I got married last year. Newnan is my favorite place to be. It does not take that long to get to Atlanta from Newnan--its less than an hour. Newnan has great shopping, 3 movie theatres, bowling, bars, etc. It is a beautiful town. Downtown has great little shops but the main shopping is in one area--Ashley Park. If you are looking for great history, Sherman's March to the Sea went right through historic Newnan. Sherman decided to not burn Newnan to the ground because it was a hospital town. So many of the history homes date back before the Civil War. It is also one of those "football towns." Downtown get's decorated every year for Newnan High's homecoming. Newnan may be farther away from Atlanta than Marietta and Roswell, but when it comes to traffic, they are all about the same. Traffic north of Atlanta is pretty bad.
