I am going to be relocating to Georgia from Wisconsin and I am not sure what area would work best for my family. I am looking for a place that best matches the following criteria; Good elemantary school system, job growth(paralegal, office, computer field), sunny warm weather even in winter months, access to fresh food or farmers markets, affordible rentals with in walking distance to supermarkets or other recreational activities, and low crime rate. Possibly a costal city close to water activities. I currently live near the mississippi river in La Crosse, Wisconsin and I hate it here I really need a change of pace. I have not been to Georgia yet but I want to narrow down what I'm looking for so I know where to visit. Your response would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry to say, I don't think that place exists... at least not in Georgia. Why don't you try areas around Charleston, SC?

Well I really don't know anything about the schools in this area but one of the surrounding areas of Brunswick such as St. Simons Island or Jekyll Island would probably be your best bet. Of course you would have to drive into Brunswick for work though. The area is growing quickly and has always had a strong government and legal background. Not so much with computers but many new industries have moved into the area since I left so that may have changed. Brunswick is the closest to what you looking for in my opinion but you may to check out communities close to large lakes to give you a better variety.

Visit Alpharetta GA just North of Atlanta GA. Schools are top rated, very low crime, plenty of big companies hiring, and 4 to 5 hours from Savanna or Charleston without the high costs.

Default New to Georgia

St Marys is a gorgeous community with a superb educational system. We are the "gateway to Cumberland Island", surrounded by marsh, river and sea and possess a very low crime rate. I have lived here for two years (I am Canadian but lived in Illinois for a year) and I am still entranced with the town, the environment and, above all, the people. Check St Marys Magazine on-line.
Welcome to Georgia

Sounds like Heaven you're looking for, however some of the above posts are accurate. St. Marys is nice but way too close to Jacksonville for me. Glynn County is partially nice, that's Brunswick, near the coast. Partially meaning stay away from the core city of Brunswick and move to north Glynn. There are jobs, and very reasonable housing in Brunswick. Like everywhere else though, crime is up. Brunswick is 33 % white, 60% black & the rest Latino, if that matters to you, Good Luck!

Hmm... I am looking at a rather lucrative job offer from Glynn County, Georgia. However, we are skeptical and will probably decline. In all fairness, we have never been to Georgia... Perhaps someone who lives there could help.

Here is some information about us. We are both professionals, Jewish, and looking for a nice town where we would actually fit in. We are both progressive, liberal and would like to be surrounded by other professionals. In addition, good schools, upscale shopping/fine dining are important.

Regards

Take a look as Suwanee,GA. It's close to the Chattahooche River. Town center park hosts a farmers market every Saturday during the season, the schools are great and it was ranked one of the top ten places to live by money magazine.

Sound good so far?

If you need some help I'm a relocation specialist with a local real estate company. Just let me know if you need some more info. on the area. YOu can check out Welcome to Suwanee, Georgia Good luck!

Consider Augusta. We have a huge Medical Community, with the Medical College of Georgia and 5 hospitals. We have a large legal community, and a fantastic Jewish community. We have a beautiful synagogue and a lovely temple and a brand new Jewish Community Center that is perfect for a beautiful bar/bat mitzvah. Surrey Center has some of the finest boutiques you'll ever find with incredible dining. Cafe 491, The Public House, Calverts and French Market Grille are all there and all to die for. Not to mention we have the Augusta National Golf Club (they host the Master's Golf Tournament), and the first week of April can earn you a pretty penny if you choose to rent your house to golf fans who light on the city for this one week out of the year.
