A Question Regarding Summerville
Hi. I'm currently living between Miami and Key Largo , Florida. My wife and I are considering a move to Summerville after living in or near Miami all our lives. Miami is getting too crowded and expensive and it's only going to get worse. My wife is a true city girl where as I am rather country. Are their shopping malls and the like whithin a short distance of Summerville? Shopping seems to be my wife's favorite activity. Thanks.

Summerville is pretty rural so if your wife likes to shop and live in a developed area I don't think she will like Summerville. I think it's heaven but it's too long a commute to ATL. I am definitely considering it for retirement. There are lots of already developed areas in north GA with tons of shopping, restaurants, etc. that I think may suit you better.

Thanks
Thanks for your reply. How about the area of Rome for shopping? I don't mind a 30 or 40 min drive but I'm not interested in driving close to Atlants. I drove through there last Nov and found it to be a nightmare.

Most people do!
Rome has a lot of stores. I've never gone shopping there but have driven the loop that goes around the City and I saw tons of strip malls and restaurants. Rome is not a big city but I think it would be a better match for you than Summerville. North GA is very different from south FL. Do you plan on visiting the cities that you are considering?

Hi CL and thanks for the information. I'm flying into Chattanooga on the 18 of Sept and then driving to Summerville and Rome. I'm going to look at a few houses in both Summerville and Rome. I don't think that I would have a difficult time adjusting but my wife is a Latina and has never lived in a laid back environment. South Florida is just way too crowded and it's getting more so each day. As long as their is shopping in Rome I think she will be OK. I thank you for your insight.

Summerville
I have lived in Summerville for 13 years and although it isn't very big, it is a charming place to live. I love it because it's only 30 minutes from Rome, 45min to an hour from Chattanooga, it seems to be a haven in the middle of everything. If you don't mind a sleepy town where we all know one another, then Summerville would be an ideal choice.

Bonnie thanks for your information. We have a contract on a house located on Buice Lane. We're just waiting for our house here in south Florida to sell. The housing market here is worse than very bad but we are hoping. My wife is Latin, but has been in Miami since she was 6. Will she be OK there with the locals ?

BonnieMichelle,
Hi this is my first post but I have been a lurker for a couple of weeks. My husband and I visited Summerville twice in 2007 and we absolutely fell in love with your beautiful town! We have been looking for a place to retire and it seems like Summerville is exactly what we're looking for. We are very interested in Cane Bay Plantation, particularly the Del Webb 55+ community. That being said, I wonder if you could tell me what you think is the best thing about living in Summerville and also what the worst thing is. Thanks alot!
