First I want to say that I fell in love with the south when my dad was in SC with the military and I got to stay with him for part of a summer. Every year since then all I have wanted to do was move somewhere south. Now I am currently a freshman at the University of Minnesota and don't know why I'm still here, so i am looking at possibly relocating to Athens. I really do enjoy the city but just haven't found my kind of people here in Minneapolis. I came from a small town and grew up on a farm more in the middle area of the state. So while I was growing up I lived the country lifestyle. I thought that since I was going to a big city that I could find other people with a similar mentality to mine but I haven't really at all. I want a place where I can find buddies to hang out play guitar with, but it seems like nobody here has the same music taste as I do. Like they all just want to play megadeath and slayer or electronica, and I live for old country, bluegrass, and southern rock but of course that gets me labeled as a hick here... It also would be nice to find the type of girl that wouldn't completely roll her eyes when I proudly show her pictures of a tractor pulling my 84 chevy out of a mud hole. Im not really a fan of all the diversity BS they stress up here either. And I mean Im not a total hick like people think of me as here, I actually am educated and like to clean up and go out in the city too. So with all that being said, could Athens be the place for me??

Like the University of Minnesota, The University of Georgia in Athens is a Land Grant Institution. The largest industry in Georgia is Agriculture so you will find some of the same characteristics as where you grew up. Uga students are from all over the State. You can find a niche where you will be comfortable. Just be aware the University is large with many different student groupings.

With regard to pc, that is something you will need to learn to endure at any major university. You would be hard pressed to find a "conservative" professor on either of these campuses.
