Hello

I have posted this before here and I didn't get many replies, so I thought I would try again. I am looking to move South to continue my career as a Certified Surgical Technologist. I am in my late 30's married and I will be bringing a now 11 year old with me (not sure how old he will be if we actually find something here). I am looking at either Savannah or Augusta or Statesboro (my father and brother live here). I have loved Georgia since my father moved here 20+ years ago. I wish I would have made the move with him then. I guess what I would like to know is has the job market improved. Does anyone have any idea if and what hospitals may be hiring in my field. Tell me what places are the best in the three that I have listed. I will be bringing a dog with me. I will need housing and I prefer to rent, so what are the rental options. I am not picky on a house or apartment it just needs to accept dogs. I currently make $19.36 an hour, does anyone know what the pay is for my field. I will be thankful for any information I can get from anyone.

Thank you,

Michelle Johnson CST

Where are you coming from? I graduated in Augusta with a Cardiovascular Tech degree and would say that you should find something at least comparable to your $19.36/hr down here (whether it be Aug, Sav or the Boro).

A quick google search for surgical tech jobs in Augusta listed more than a few positions at University, GHSU, Trinity and Select hospitals in the Augusta area...

Hope that helps! Good luck, we'd love to have you in Georgia.

Hi, thank you for your reply. I am coming from Michigan. I have experience in Oral Maxillofacial, ENT, Plastics, General Surgery, GYN, SON (Surgical Oncology), some Sports. I have looked at a couple of hospitals in Augusta and only found two. Maybe I am not looking in the correct places. I will continue the search. Thank you for your help, it is much appreciated.

Found two job listings? Or two hospitals?

University Hospital, VA hospital, Trinity Hospital, Doctors Hospital, GHSU and even Aiken Regional are possibilities in the Augusta area... not familiar with any of the hospitals in Savannah or Statesboro... keep looking and good luck!

Default Job Listings

Thank you so much for your help. I did find a couple of job listings. Do you know how likely someone is to hire from out of state?

With your experience pretty much all over the hospital, I think that should be a major plus... I really don't foresee you being out of state as a problem, it might even be a plus right now. My wife is a RN at MCG (GHSU) in the shock/trauma ICU and just off the top of my head... she has co-workers from Asheville NC, Pennsylvania, and a couple others from elsewhere. Augusta's medical field is pretty diverse in terms of employee transplants... GHSU gets a lot of people from all over for all their programs and a lot of those people graduate and stay here to set up shop in their medical related careers. That's why I don't foresee you being from out of town as something that will be held against you, at all.

Get on those positions! And good luck.
