that if a high school student misses X amount of days of schools, his license will be taken? if it's a state law, are the same amount of unexcused days the same for every HS? This school policy or state law is useless for places that DO NOT require a vehicle for transportation. Anybody can easily just take the subway, train, bus, etc...

Yes it is state law and it is the same for every high school in the state. I suppose if the student is lucky enough to live in an area where a car isn't required then they are ok. In GA that is very few places.

It has to do with UNEXCUSED absences. If the kid is in school or legitimately sick, then no problem. Why would a student have any UNEXCUSED absences?

Because there are days when you're sick enough not to go to school, but not sick enough to go to the doctor. Those days count as unexcused.

only if the student is below the age of 18. it's not *too* strictly enforced, in my senior year i had 40 unexcused absences and managed to get an A in every course— as long as it's not affecting your grades too much they don't tend to enforce it.

Driving is NOT a basic right, especially for a school-aged child.

Not if the child's parent sends a note to school. I won't even get into why kids are staying home for trivial and unnecessary reasons, but if the parent sends a note, it's excused.

Here are the policies in Cobb Co:

http://www.cobbk12.org/centraloffice...es/Rule_JE.pdf

"A letter written by a parent/guardian and/or licensed physician explaining the reasons for absences must be presented to school authorities by all students on the date of return to school or no later than the following school day after a period of absence from school. Failure to submit a note within three schools days after a student’s return from an absence will result in the absence being marked as unexcused."
