If my husband gets this job promotion, we'll be moving to GA. His job is in Macon but we want to live in a small town outside the city. Any recommendations?

Greetings! I saw your post about Macon, Ga. To me, Macon, GA is a bit rough to be such a small city. If you live there, I would live in the North part of Macon where the schools are better and area is safer.
Byron, GA 15 mins south of Macon is a very small community with large homes with good prices. The schools for elementary are fair but the High school is not good which is located in Ft. Valley, GA. Warner Robins is about 20 minutes from Macon and is flooded with nice areas and it is more family oriented like Byron. In Warner Robins, the nice side of living is in the areas of Bonaire, Kathleen, Lake Joy Rd... I hope this helps. Churches that I would recommend are Christ Chapel in Macon, Harvest Cathedral in Macon, New Hope in Kathleen, Southside Baptist in WR, Central Baptist in WR. I hope this helps you some. I know how it is locating to a new area with all the uncertainties that come along side of the transition. |

Don't speed through Warner Robins. Those cops are pros at catching speeders. They set some of the best speed traps I've ever seen, and they never rest. I guess the increase of the speed limit to 70mph in most areas has put a little bit of a damper in the revenue for Warner Robins.

Thanks. Several friends from Georgia also recommended Warner Robins. Cost of living seems equal to where we are now and the houses I've searched online seem to be priced even a bit lower than where we are now and I didn't think that was possible (we are in Indiana). Schools aren't an issue for me - my daughter will either be homeschooled or go to private school.

Moving to georgia was the biggest mistake my family made. We live in middle georgia and have been eagerly trying to move for the last 4 years. So the weather is okay, except for the humidity and bugs that seem to be everywhere, I would rather have the snow. Nice homes, but pay tripple in taxes per year than what we did before. Schools are horrible, they treat the children like criminals. I have never heard of schools with so many strict rules. One child lat week committed suicide because of the tough rules. Like tucking your shirt in, wearing a belt, no tallking in the bus or in the lunch room, if your tardy even by 1 min. your put in a tardy room all day and cannot make up the work, you are not allowed to ask questions to the teachers because they concider it talking back, you cannot wear tshirts of white or have your hair braided. my kids are on the bus at 620 am and dont arrive home until 445 pm each day, even though school dont start til 8 and ends at 315 pm. I can go on and on over the schools. A study showed that only 64% of all kids graduate from highschool, with the minority being only 52 %. So I would really search the schools out first. As for the crime, theres alot, but seems like its everywhere these days. Things to do?? You have to drive for ever to get any where, even to a walmart. I wish you luck with your decision. Maybe it will turn out better for you. I know the most important thing I have learned while being here is how much my family means
to me. We have no family here and miss them terribly. Please think hard about relocating, it will be the biggest decision you can make. |

where exactly did you live before moving to georgia and why did you leave in the 1st place. Are those percentages of graduating students a fact? and if so, in what area of georgia? Sounds like a military school to me, but the not talking on the bus nor lunch room seem a bit much.
