Ok. I'm excited to say that Im considering moving from new York to atlanta. I'm sick of paying 1070 for a one bedroom when I could be living in a 4 bedroom for less. So me, my husband and my three beautiful children plan on packing up and leaving this dreadful city.....I am 24, college student and my kids are 4, 5 and 7. They are very excited to move somewhere where they could just run down some steps ad hit the backyard my plan is to save up at least 6 months of rent and then put in a transfer for work as I work from home so I can work anywhere I chose which is the good part. And then go to college as well.

You wonderful residents of Georgia, I need your input.

I Want to move somewhere with a good school system and diverse neighborhood. I'm Spanish and my husband is black, so u see wherevim coming from lol.

I've looked into Cobb County, Marietta and fell in love. I also don't want to be too far from the city which I beleive would be Atlanta?? If that's what you guys call the city.

If I can get some advice and a mental picture of what I might look forward to I would GREATLY appreciate it and maybe even visit you sometime lol. My decision is based on how much positive or negative information I receive. I won't start really taking action and saving until I've heard good things.

I hope you don't really think you're going to get a 4-bedroom rental for less than $1,070/month as your first sentence seems to indicate. Anything that large in that price range is going to be in a pretty crappy area. We're out in Cherokee County (great schools, btw), and a nice 4-bedroom house up here rents for between $1,500 and $1,800/month. Areas closer to Atlanta will be slightly more if its a safe area with good schools.

I live in Cobb county and my children are very happy. I've lived in NYC and Los Angeles so this was quite an adjustment. Cobb county is diverse but Gwinnett county offers the most diversity and it also has good schools. That being said personally I prefer Cobb. You will find everything you need here from cooking ingredients to salsa lessons, empanadas or even a cuban sandwich. Its nothing like NY but you will have plenty of space for the kids to play outside and enjoy the milder weather.
There are plenty of housing options but plan to budget in for gasoline, insurance, heating gas, electric and other costs that are not included in the rent for a house.

Good luck

Best advice for your family that bears repeating: Secure a job first (for your husband). This will lead you to the right area without stranding you. Both Cobb or Gwinett are good choices, with Cobb being a good choice if you want to enroll at Kennesaw University.

Another possibility: Whitfield County, Georgia with its large Hispanic population and strategic location as suburb of Chattanooga, Tennessee (where more jobs will be available) and UT at Chattanooga for enrollment.
